For years, the Obama administration has given ordinary citizens the opportunity to get direct action from the White House on their own pet issues via its We the People online petition program. The way the program works, any petition that receives a sufficient number of signatures garners an official response from a White House representative. But apparently the Administration thinks that it has set the bar for the required number of signatures, previously 25,000, too low. As of today, the required number has been quadrupled to 100,000, making it a lot harder to get action on your burning desire for a Death Star or to blow the lid on the existence of aliens at Area 51.
