It looks like Andrew Garfield will face off against more than just Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because according to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Giamatti is in negotiations to play The Rhino in the superhero sequel. Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but talks must be pretty advanced at this point for word to have leaked already.

For those who don’t know, The Rhino was created by Stan Lee and artist John Romita Jr. in 1966 in The Amazing Spider-Man #41. In the comics he is a Soviet named Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich, and he wears an advanced armored suit that resembles a rhino to enhance his strength and durability. He has fought Spider-Man, and other heavy-hitters in the Marvel Universe, over the years, but recently he has become something of a tragic figure, especially during the storyline titled "The Gauntlet."

That being said, we think the movie will take more inspiration from the non-communist Ultimate version of the character because we all know that the Soviets are so passé in Hollywood at the moment. This is apparently a dream role for Giamatti as the site is reporting that The Rhino was one of his favorite comic book characters while growing up.

The site is also confirming that actress Felicity Jones is up for an unspecified part in the movie as well. At 29-years-old, it’s possible that director Marc Webb could attempt to pass her off as a high school classmate of Peter Parker’s in some way, or perhaps she’ll play a character like Betty Brant or the wife of one of the villains. We’ll have more on this story as details continue to come out.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters on May 2, 2014.
