As far as television show lifespans go, American Idol is a veteran. It's been on air since 2002 and, though still a major moneymaker for Fox, it's been growing a bit stale, especially now as it enters its twelfth season with Randy Jackson as the only remaining original judge. That's not to say the show hasn't produced some real stars; Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Katharine McPhee and Jennifer Hudson have all gone on to reach huge success in some form or another. But, after eleven years, is it time for the show to finally hang up its hat?
According to Hudson, yes. Speaking to Celebuzz at an event, the season three alum who went on to star in Dreamgirls and the Sex and the City film said she believes she series "should allow itself to go out on top...and gracefully."
"Everything has its time," she continued. "American Idol has changed the face of television. So, not everyone can say that. And it's always been a phenomenon. I'm proud to have come from American Idol, so I just say, 'Go out on top.'"
When your own contestants start thinking your show should end, maybe it's time for the show to end.
