In today's world of Spotify streams and mp3 blogs it can be easy to forget just how heated the war over digitally distributed music became at the turn of the century. At the time, Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker, teenage founders of proto P2P client Napster, emerged as the poster boys of downloading culture, making them heroes to the masses villains to the billion dollar music industry. Metallica and Dr. Dre declared war even as Time and Newsweek splashed the Napster boys across their covers.

Downloaded: The Digital Revolution, is the new Rock Doc from Vh1 and chronicles the era using both stock footage and new interviews with those who were there. The first official trailer is above. Look for the film to premiere at festivals and on Vh1 in the new year.
