According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ty Burrell has signed on to play an Interpol inspector in Disney’s sequel to The Muppets. This is the role that Christoph Waltz was originally attached to, but due to scheduling conflicts he had to drop out of the project. Director James Bobin will be back for this Muppets installment after directing last year’s revival.

The yet-untitled sequel will move the popular puppet clan to Europe where Burrell’s character will get involved in the story. Burrell’s success on ABC’s Modern Family, which is owned by Disney, surely made him a no-brainer for this role. The studio is eyeing a December 20, 2013 release date for the film.
