No matter how you look at it, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained was always going to be controversial. This tale of slavery takes the serious nature of the times and throws it into a blender with over-the–top violence and humor to make a film that is both an exploitation flick and a spaghetti western. Tarantino has always made light of sensitive subject matter – like in Inglourious Basterds – but this time he has gained the ire of famed filmmaker Spike Lee, who revealed in an interview with Vibe that he won’t be watching Tarantino’s latest.

When asked about his thoughts on the movie, Lee responded, "I cant speak on it 'cause I'm not gonna see it. All I'm going to say is that it's disrespectful to my ancestors. That's just me...I'm not speaking on behalf of anybody else."

Then yesterday on his Twitter, Lee elaborated on his stance with this tweet:

American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves.Stolen From Africa.I Will Honor Them.

This is a very sensitive subject for people, and while it’s obvious that Tarantino only meant for this to be big screen entertainment, it’s easy to see how Django could come off as tasteless. You can either tweet at us or leave a comment below to let us know if you think Tarantino is being disrespectful with his take on slavery in Django Unchained.
