When Disney bought Lucasfilm earlier in the year, we were left wondering what would happen to the Star Wars comic book rights that Dark Horse Comics is currently holding onto. Since Disney is the owner of Marvel, it would only make sense that the company would want to begin publishing the Star Wars comics itself, but Dark Horse apparently still has the rights to the franchise for another year.

Now,Blue Sky Disney – a blog focusing on all news regarding the House of Mouse – has posted a new rumor claiming that Disney will likely gain the rights back from Dark Horse after 2013. Marvel actually originally began publishing Star Wars books in the '70s and '80s right after the movies were released, but Dark Horse has handled everything since 1991. Here is what the article said:

None

This move isn’t entirely unexpected, but it is bad news for Dark Horse, which depends on the sales of these Star Wars titles to allow itself the breathing room to pump out more experimental, original content. Unfortunately we don't know what this rumor would mean for Brian Wood's highly-anticipated upcoming self-titled Star Wars series that will begin in January. If what this blog is reporting does turn out to be true, we’ll be sure to update you on it.
