The House of Mouse is slowly turning into the House of Unnecessary Sequels, and now Variety is reporting that Disney is looking to return to the world of Alice in Wonderland with a sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 original. The studio has hired Linda Woolverton, the writer of the first Alice, to pen the script the sequel. There is no word yet on whether Burton will return to direct or if the stars of the original will reprise their roles for this go-around.

Despite being savaged by critics upon its initial release, Alice in Wonderland grossed over $1 billion worldwide, a number which was greatly aided by its inflated 3D ticket prices. This is just another part of Disney’s strategy to pump out tentpole franchises with popular actors and strong 3D visuals, while taking fewer risks on original properties.
