Apple is looking for help wherever it can get it when it comes to improving its heavily criticized Maps app. According to a new report in the Wall Street Journal, Cupertino's latest effort involves reaching out to Foursquare for a possible deal to license local business data.

Among Apple Maps' most notable flaws is a lack of detailed information about local businesses as compared with Google's recently released maps offering for iOS. By partnering with Foursquare, Apple would gain access to insights on tons of businesses shared by the social network's 25 million users.

Apple Maps already relies on data from partners including Yelp, TomTom and Waze.
