Last summer’s Amazing Spider-Man did a decent job of re-introducing the world to Peter Parker and his colorful supporting cast, but like any first installment in a larger trilogy, certain characters were left out in the cold. However, it looks like Sony is trying to rectify that by introducing longtime Spidey favorites like Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn in the movie’s upcoming sequel.

We know that Shailene Woodley is set to play Mary Jane, and now The Hollywood Reporter has posted three candidates that the studio is looking at for Osborn. According to the site, Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) are all up for the role, which has been described as “dark and edgy.” We don’t know if this version of Harry will turn into a villain eventually like James Franco’s did in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, but there should be some underlying angst to whoever gets the role, whether they become a Goblin or not.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters on May 2, 2013.
