Just as predicted yesterday, Taken 2 swept the box office this weekend, earning an impressive $50 million domestically and $55 million internationally, bringing the worldwide total to a whopping $105 million - a number 43% higher than this same weekend last year, and nearly double what the first Taken film earned on opening weekend in 2009. Additionally, the film broke the record for the best October opening for a PG-13 film in North America, and third-best overall.

In other weekend box office news, Hotel Transylvania, released last week, came in at number two with $27 million - bringing its total to $105.3 million worldwide - and Pitch Perfect, also released last week, came in an number three with a respectable $14.1 million. Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, the other wide-release film making its debut this weekend, unfortunately came in at number five with $11.5 million.
