Microsoft may not be interested in competing in the low-cost tablet market, but Google doesn't appear to be nearly as shy about selling people hardware at low, low prices. The maker of the well-liked Nexus 7 tablet, already appealing at $199, is reportedly mulling an even cheaper version for this holiday season that will sell for just $99.

The inexpensive spin-off will allegedly feature a less-powerful single-core processor and be manufactured by Taiwanese-based Quanta Computer, according to DigiTimes. Other details on the rumored device are still scarce.

In addition to a cheaper version of the Nexus 7, Google is also expected to launch a more expensive version that will feature 32 GB of storage.

Currently, the 7-inch tablet is available in two configurations: 8GB for $199 and 16GB for $249.
