One of the highlights of 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger had to be Hugo Weaving’s performance as the Red Skull. With his crimson face and evil German accent, he was the type of maniacal would-be world conqueror that you could root for. And his ambiguous fate at the end of the movie left open the possibility for his return. But if we ever do see the Red Skull come back, it’s unlikely that Weaving will be playing him. That’s about as honest as an actor is ever going to get. But Marvel has recast roles before, so the studio would probably have no problem throwing someone else under the makeup if necessary. We'll keep an eye on this as production on Captain America: The Winter Soldier continues.
