Google is stepping up its efforts to rival Apple's Siri personal assistant software by releasing a new rival designed to run on Apple devices themselves. The Internet giant's new search app features a voice component obviously designed to serve as a replacement for Siri.
In the ad above for Google Search (available now for iOS), the company shows off a more Internet-based approach to answering questions and solving problems ("What's the weather?" "I need a mechanic.") that have typically been the provenance of Apple's built-in Siri software.
Whether iPhone customers will opt for Google's service over Apple's, or bother to use a personal assistant at all, remains to be seen.
