During a speech to the Values Voter Summit on Saturday, former presidential hopeful, Rick Santorum, took a hard stance against the media and intellectuals in a way that was both baffling and stereotypically Republican.

"We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country," Santorum told the audience, according to Buzz Feed. "We will never have the elite, smart people on our side."

We’re under the assumption that the people in attendance had no idea that the former Pennsylvania senator basically just called all of them stupid. But by now it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone why Santorum was bounced from the 2012 presidential election all the way back in the spring.

Anyone who views intelligent people as an adversary probably shouldn’t be put in charge of enough nuclear weaponry to erase life on this planet as we know it. Then again, we did put Bush in office twice.
