Apple didn't just introduce the much anticipated iPhone 5 today, it also upped the ante on its aging but beloved iPod lineup. All new models of both the iPod Touch and the iPod Nano were announced. Let's start with the Touch.

iPod Touch, 5th Generation

Apple's most advanced iPod, the new version of the Touch follows many of the improvements introduced in the iPhone 5. It has the same, larger Retina display and is somehow even thinner than its predecessor. It also has a much improved camera, although it's not quite the 8 megapixel beauty found in the iPhone. The new Touch's iSight camera is 5 megapixels with an f 2.4 aperture and a five-element lens. Around front it also boasts a new FaceTime HD camera, and internally it gets an A5 processor for all-around improved performance.

Additionally, Apple has added something it calls "Loop," which is basically a wristband that attaches directly to the back of the iPod. It's not a case or an arm band for running, but at least it will prevent you from dropping your iPod when in use.

The 5th Generation iPod Touch also comes in multiple colors for the first time. Six are available, including white, electric blue, green apple, pink, black and RED.

There are two sizes: 32 GB for $299 and 64 GB for $399. Both ship in October.

iPod Nano, 7th Generation

The new Nano is even more radically improved than its larger brother. Having endured more form factor changes more rapidly than any other iPod, it gets a new design again, this time up to a tall-and-narrow rectangle from the squat little square of the previous model. It has an "extrudo" rounded edge design (which court documents recently revealed was once considered for the iPhone) and looks a little like a miniature version of the newly announced Nokia Lumia 920, if we do say so ourselves. There's also a new volume rocker on the left side.

The new Nano has a significantlylarger screen than any of its predecessors at 2.5 inches diagonally, but is also a full 38 percent thinner than last generation's tiny square. It also has a home button, a first for a non-Touch iPod. It shoots video for the first time in a generation, and also supports Bluetooth. As usual, the upgraded Nano comes in a variety of colors.

The iPod Nano is 16GB for $149. Like the iPod Touch, it ships in October.
