TLC's wildly successful Here Comes Honey Boo Boo may have beat all individual broadcasts of the Republican National Convention earlier this month, but the same can't be said for the episode that aired last Wednesday during coverage of the Democratic National Convention. Close, though - according to The Hollywood Reporter, ratings of Honey Boo Boo's September 5th episode tied with the ratings for CNN's DNC coverage, which included a speech from former President Bill Clinton. Oh, America, you never change.
All hope for our country isn't lost though! Despite tying with the coverage of the major political event, the series still took a hit in the ratings and dropped about 20% compared to the previous episode that ran during the RNC, indicating that some likely tuned out to watch the DNC coverage instead. As we all know now, they certainly weren't watching the VMAs instead.
