Now that The Hangover series is ready to wrap up, director Todd Phillips is looking to expand his résumé beyond booze-soaked comedies. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips has entered into talks with Paramount to direct The Gambler, a remake of the 1974 film which starred James Caan. If the deal goes through, it would be the first dramatic piece of his career.

Originally Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the film, but it looks like the schedule lined up perfectly for Phillips to be considered. If Phillips signs on to the project, he will begin shooting shortly after finishing his directing work on The Hangover Part III.
