It's hard out there for Google Maps these days. Not only has the venerable service been booted from all new versions of iOS, it won't be appearing on the new version of the Kindle Fire either.
Amazon is reportedly adding GPS mapping to the next Kindle Fire, but instead of turning to Google it has decided to partner with Nokia. The Finnish phone maker has its own mapping initiative called Oyj that powers maps on Nokia Windows Phones like the Lumia 900.
The snub means that Google Maps is being increasingly isolated as a Web-based resource. Non-Android mobile users will soon find themselves cozying up to a growing number of alternatives. With mobile increasingly looing like the future of everything, that must make the folks in Mountain View pretty nervous.
