The World of Warcraft movie adaptation is, whether or not you think it's a good idea, most likely happening. It's been happening since 2007, in fact. But it's no longer happening with Sam Raimi, the Spider-Man trilogy and Evil Dead director who signed on in 2009, at the helm.

The director told Crave at Comic-Con that he's no longer involved with the project.

“Actually, they don’t have me directing World of Warcraft anymore because when I took the [Oz the Great and Powerful] job, they had to move on to another director,” he said. “They had to start making it.”

In 2010 Raimi was reportedly gushing about whatever new writer they had brought on board, but there's been little word of the WoW movie since then. Now that he's taken another project (the aforementioned Oz), it appears Activion-Blizzard just couldn't wait for him.

Bummer? Or do you think they'll find someone just as capable? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
