Harmonix announced that their upcoming non-instrument based music game, Rock Band Blitz, will be launching on XBLA and PSN at the end of August. Blitz will head to PSN on August 27th, followed immediately by the Xbox Live Arcade version on August 28th. Both versions will cost $14.99 (1200 MS Points).

Rock Band Blitz is a combination of gameplay element from Rock Band and Harmonix' cult classic rhythm game, Frequency. Players have to alternate between the different tracks (instruments) in a song, tapping buttons along with each individual track to keep multipliers high. A predominantly one-player experience, Blitz ditches conventional split-screen multiplayer for asynchronous play fueled by competitive leaderboards.

Harmonix also took the time to announce four new songs on the game's track list: Kool & The Gang's "Jungle Boogie," "We Are Young" by Fun, "Sing" by My Chemical Romance, and Avenged Sevenfold's "So Far Away." The new arrivals bring the game's announced track list up to 19: You can check out the full list on the Rock Band website.

On top of the game's starting track list, Rock Band Blitz is compatible with the entire Rock Band library, so die-hard fans of the series will be able to bust out all the extra tracks they've picked up over the years.
