Epic Games announced a deal today that will allow Chinese gaming corporation Tencent Holdings Limited to purchase a minority stake in the American gaming giant.

You may not have heard of Tencent, but the Hong Kong-based publisher is actually one of the largest gaming companies in the world. Their lineup of free-to-play browser and mobile games are widely popular in Asia.

The deal will not effect the daily or long-term operations of the company, which will remain independent. The deal may be a move on Epic's part to push their products in the Asian market. Epic will work closely with Tencent to publish and market their games in China and throughout Asia.

The deal between the companies is expected to close one month from now. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
