Bret Easton Ellis Tweeted That He Wouldn't Mind Writing the "Fifty Shades of Grey" Screenplay

Don't do this.

None

For some reason (read: the promise of a gigantic paycheck), directors, writers, and actors alike have been clamouring to be apart of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film. Based off of the bestselling erotic fiction "mommy porn" novel of the same name - which itself is based off of an alternate universe Twilight fanfiction - the project is still in the early stages of development, but absolutely sure to happen considering the attention that the book has managed to garner in the recent months.

Now, according to LAist, one name to add to the list of hopefuls is American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis, who expressed interest in adapting the book into a screenplay. As in, in those exact words. "I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey"..." he actually tweeted this weekend.

Think he's joking? He's not

"Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey. This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters." No, really, he's not joking: "Hope E.L. James doesn't think I'm being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer's dream..." Then, a day later, "Okay. Today the team has been briefed and we will be approaching the studio this week about BEE adapting "Fifty Shades of Grey" into a film."

We don't think Patrick Bateman would be impressed with this.
