President Obama Will Reportedly Veto Privacy-Killing CISPA Bill, But Throw Support Behind Similar Bill

Internet freedoms at stake.

None

To refresh your memories, CISPA is the bill requiring ISPs to hand over browsing history and habits of users to the government for practically any reason (national security, cybersecurity, “protection of individuals”), without a subpoena or warrant, just as a request. The House of Reps passed the bill 10 days ago.

The White House has reiterated that Obama will veto the bill. Unfortunately, the administration is throwing its support behind a similar, larger bill by Senator Joe Lieberman, which contains the same measures against user privacy on the web, as well as further infrastructural regulations regarding the electrical grid and transportation systems. It doesn’t look good.
