For photographers of exquisite taste (and bottomless pockets), Leica and Hermès have teamed up for a special edition of the M9-P that's as gorgeous as the photos it takes.
The influence of the venerable Parisien fashion house is evident in the creamy calfskin leather wrapped around Leica's signature chrome body. The same leather is also used on a matching camera strap.
The M9-P, a high-end, 18 MP rangefinder was already costly at $8,000, and the Hermès version triples the price tag to a cool $29,000. Only 300 of the cameras were made.
Also announced today was the Leica M Monochrom— a camera that only shoots in black-and-white thanks to the exclusion of a color sensor. The M Monochrom is said to capture brilliant black-and-white images that are much sharper than what you can get from a color camera. It features an 18 megapixel, full-frame sensor and retails for $8,000.
