It's been exactly one month since Sega's recent misfortunes were first brought into the public light, when the publisher/developer announced that they'd be going through major layoffs, cancellations and "restructuring".

At the time, they announced that four franchises were definitely safe: Sonic, Football Manager, Total War, and Aliens. But now it seems a victim of the changes may have arisen: Bayonetta 2.

The game's existence in the first place has only been rumored, so this "news" could be nothing other than more baseless rumblings. Let's hope so.

But gaming site SPOnG claims that an inside source at Sega has informed them that the game—which would have included a new character from the US military—has been stopped in its tracks.

We'll know more once Sega or Platinum Games make an official statement. A rumor like this could preempt whatever plans they had for a Bayonetta 2 announcement, so that statement could come at any time.

What do you think? Could the game be cancelled? Were you looking forward to a Bayonetta sequel? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
