People love Newark, N.J., mayor Cory Booker, but he proved he’s truly the hero the town needs and deserves after saving a woman from a burning building last night.
After returning home from an interview, Booker saw a two-story building in his Upper Clinton Hill neighborhood engulfed in flames. Booker hit the scene with his entire security detail and stormed inside of the building where he says he heard a woman shout, “I’m upstairs.” His detail refused to let him proceed, but after yelling, “She is going to die,” he shook them off in true action-hero fashion.
Trailed by flames, Booker acknowledged that he was “at peace with the fact that I was going to jump out the window.” It never came to that, as he found the woman in her bedroom and whisked her out the building in his arms, flanked by his security team. The only thing missing was the slow-mo and dramatic music.
Booker was treated for smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hand, and the woman suffered back and neck burns, but is in stable condition. He thanked fans for their concern via Twitter:
