Has there been any greater fall from grace over the last decade than Mel Gibson? The man was Hollywood royalty for years, but he let it all slip away in a tidal wave of racial epithets, threatening phone calls, and drunk driving arrests. Recently, he has struggled to find any high-profile work and has seen his career go from big box office numbers to small movies that go straight to DVD. He's the Fatty Arbuckle of our generation.

But none of this has deterred director Robert Rodriguez from negotiating with Gibson to star in a supporting role in the follow-up to 2010’s Machete, titled Machete Kills, according to Deadline. The plot of the movie revolves around Machete (Danny Trejo) being hired by the U.S. government to track down an arms dealer in Mexico before the dealer can launch a dangerous weapon into space.

There is no word yet on just who Gibson would play in the movie, but perhaps seeing Trejo drive a machete through the actor’s sternum would satisfy those in the audience still disgusted with his recent string of racist rants.
