A leaked trailer from Capcom's Captivate showcase has revealed that a third entry in the Lost Planet franchise is in the works.

The Lost Planet 3 trailer is one of a slew of embargoed videos leaked online ahead of schedule, including new trailers for Resident Evil 6 and DmC.

Capcom has given the franchise to developer Spark Unlimited (Call of Duty: Finest HourLegendary) for the new game.

As with past Lost Planets, the game looks like it will revolve around using mechs to destroy giant enemies. The trailer says that Lost Planet 3 is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3. As of now, no PC version has been announced.

With the cat out of the bag on a brand new game, don't be surprised if Capcom releases more information on Lost Planet 3 in the near future...

UPDATE: Capcom released a quick statement about Captivate, which includes a brief overview of Lost Planet 3. Players take control of Jim, a ultility rig pilot who's taken a dangerous job on the frozen world, E.D.N. III. The gameplay will be a mix of third-person shooting as Jim on foot and first-person mech combat.

Since Jim isn't a soldier and his rig isn't designed for combat, the game may focus on surviving encounters than on combat, though that is purely speculation at this point.

In addition to the single-player story, the game will include some kind of multiplayer experience.

Lost Planet 3 Will hit stores in "early 2013".
