After meeting with a group of young actresses for the lead role in Carrie, MGM has officially offered the part to Hugo star, Chloe Moretz, according to Deadline. If she accepts the role, she would play the titular Carrie White, which is the same part that Sissy Spacek made famous in Brian DePalma's original 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel.

Carrie revolves around White's discovery of her bizarre telepathic abilities and her relationship with her strict religious mother. This all builds to a crescendo when Carrie uses her powers with deadly consequences after a group of bullies pull a horrifying prank on her during the prom. And with bullying being a constant fixture in headlines today, a Carrie remake would be more relevant now than ever.

Carrie will be directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) and it will be written by comic book writer and playwright, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
