The Weirdest Way To Get "Mass Effect 3" A Week Before Its Release

From space.

None

EA announced today that they'll soon be sending Commander Shepard exactly where he belongs: space. Or, perhaps more accurately, the upper atmosphere, at least.

In what's either the best or the worst marketing scheme ever, they've decided to launch copies of Mass Effect 3 off the ground a week before the game's release using weather balloons with GPS trackers. You can follow their progress on masseffect.com and try to nab one when it lands. Assuming they don't all fall in the middle of the ocean, that is.

And assuming a more bloodthirsty fan doesn't get there first and turn this into the Hunger Games of video game launches. So is there any possibility of this ending well? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
