HBO's new horse gambling show Luck isn't having any good fortune. According the animal rights organization PETA, Luck was forced to euthanize two of its horses during production, one due to a fracture that occurred during a fall on the racetrack while filming, and the other died from unknown causes in a later episode.
Luck ordinarily carries a "No animals were harmed" disclosure at the start of each episode, but this message was noticeably left out during the pilot and episode 7, which are the episodes in which the horses sustained the injuries they were later euthanized because of.
The American Humane Association has in-depth descriptions of the precautions the show takes to make sure the animals are appropriately cared for, and offered full-disclosure of the incident. The AHA also added that they are "deeply saddened by the deaths of these two wonderful animals."
