Beats Audio Could Be A Streaming Music Service, Boombox Next

Jimmy and Dre plot their next big moves.

None

HTC purchased a 51% stake in Beats Audio over the summer and now that Monster is no longer a partner, HTC looks to firmly capitalize on the brand. GigaOM reports that Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine is planning to roll out the company’s own streaming music service to be paired with a new line of tablets, handsets, and even a Bluetooth-enabled wireless boombox. It’s a logical next step, given Beats’ inherent label ties and the lack of a hi-fi streaming option (most services top out at 256 or 320 kbps) that would fit the Beats brand. If it all happens, then of course Detox is even further in the rearview.
