Today Wikipedia went dark. If you've been paying any attention at all, or have bothered to read any of the site's own statements on the matter, you probably know why that is. But Wikipedia, it turns out, is not solely the provenance of the well informed.
Twitter user herpderpedia is shining a light on those hapless individuals, most seemingly born after 1990, who can't seem to figure out why their external knowledge bank has gone offline.
And boy are they angry.
"omg no wikipedia fuck you for shutting dwn!!!!!! why is it down??? some shitty reason omg who cars," wrote one user.
"NOO WIKIPEDIA I NEED INFORMATION FOR MY ESSAY RIGHT NOW WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!?!?!" chimed in another poor student.
Many inexplicably took their anger out on President Obama, who is actually against SOPA and PIPA as the laws are currently written.
"not just wikipedia that's being victimised. do obama and his cronies realise how inconvenient they are being?!" wrote one potential voter.
"thnx to obama i cant even go on tumblr or wikipedia," added another.
It would be funnier if it weren't an election year.
