Why Was the Empire State Building Lit Up With 49ers Colors?

The NFC Championship Game is underway, and Friday night's mishap at the Empire State Building might be a bad omen for the New York Giants.

Former Giant David Tyree, whose third-down helmet-catch helped them win Super Bowl XLII, was invited to turn on the lights to celebrate the Giant's trip out west to face the San Francisco 49ers. The building lit up, alright-with that Niners red and gold.

It was a total coincidence, as the colors are related to the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated with China's colors of red and gold. The Giant blue originally intended to illuminate the city was in place last night, but this was still a bad pre-game look for the G-Men.

If the Giants lose, keep Mayor Bloomberg's agreement in mind. No pressure.
