Google is getting in on the digital reading trend, launching a new app that seeks to optimize news articles for smartphones and tablets.

"Currents" which debuted for iOS and Android yesterday, presents digital editions of publications like GOOD, The Daily Beast and Fast Company in a slick, Flipboard-like format. The app lets you catch up on "trending" news and conveniently lets you save articles for reading offline.

Test out Currents for free in the App Store and Android Marketplace.
