As excited as we are about the sequel, we have to wonder why they chose this guy.

While Thor and Captain America were heating up the summer, we couldn't forget the other Marvel property that did rather well in 2011. X-Men: First Class 2 has been announced as being underway, with Simon Kinberg penning the first draft as we speak. If you're unfamiliar with the name, he was one of several writers on X3: The Last Stand, which shouldn't make too many people jump from their seats.

But Kinberg went on to earn writing credits for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jumper, and Sherlock Holmes. He's also a writer-producer on the forthcoming This Means War and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter starring Benjamin Walker. We have no other solid intel on where Charles Xavier, Erik Lensherr, and the junior mutants will go. But according to First Class director Matthew Vaughn, "It would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and reveal that the 'magic bullet' was controlled by Magneto."

It would certainly show off how pissed off the manipulator of metal is after hearing JFK take all the credit for saving the world and not even utter the word "mutant." Seeing the sequel tackle the events of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War would make this one be on the must-watch list immediately.

All is just musing at the moment though, with no confirmed crew or returning cast, and no start date. We'll keep you posted.
