Last week, when we showed y'all the second trailer for Brett Ratner's Tower Heist, we also reported that the comedy will stream through Comcast's VOD format. This means that three weeks after hitting theaters on November 4, Comcast customers in Portland, Oregon and Atlanta, Georgia will be able to see the movie, from home, for the price of $59.99. We already voted this idea down like the GOP did President Obama's jobs bill, and it seems like we're not the only ones upset.
Four theater chains: Cinemark USA, Galaxy Theatres, Regency Theatres, and Emagine Theatres are vowing to give the upcoming comedy the gas face, along with several independent chains (which control over 50 screens across the country), if they plan to hand this proposed price tag to cinephiles. While the promotion will not be widespread, we have to admit that it's kind of like the pot calling the kettle "n-word."Universal Pictures has to be crazy to think that anyone is willing to pay close to $60 to watch a movie in their living room and these movies houses must be insane to believe that we want to spend $15 to see Tower Heist.
But what do we know, right? If anyone is willing to part with the cash, either way, we say let them do it... They're clearly just going to blow it on something foolish either way. The Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy starring comedy comes to theaters on November 4, 2011. Don't say we didn't warn you.
