Though Queen singer Freddie Mercury succumbed to AIDS in 1991, he would’ve turn 65 yesterday. In celebration, Google animated its international homepages yesterday and its stateside one today with a video paying tribute to the iconic frontman, fittingly set to the band’s 1978 hit, “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Kudos to Google for not using cheesetastic singles “We Are The Champions” or “We Will Rock You” instead, though “Bohemian Rhapsody” could’ve perhaps inspired something even more awesome than an 8-bit Freddie Mercury soaring through the sky atop a tiger and then commandeering a Jetsons-style spaceship. See for yourself above.

The move by Google follows past tributes to Charlie Chaplin, John Lennon, and Les Paul.
