Fresh off the news of a forward-thinking subscription service on Xbox Live, Comcast seeks to continue proving its relevancy with its Internet Essentials program, a low-priced internet connection designed for low-income families.

The $9.99/month service was a collaborative effort between Comcast and the FCC, furthering an intriguing trend of Comcast aligning themselves with other brands and organizations.

The effort also offers discounted computers, priced at $150, as well as training programs and the Norton Security Suite. Comcast is currently accepting participants until 2014.

According to the press release, the Internet Essentials program was created to help level the playing field for underprivileged youth. Which is noble. By the time little Billy gets to the 6th grade, he should be discovering free porn regardless of whether his father is a janitor or a lawyer.
