Samsung is apparently very serious about cornering the mobile market. With a gang of Galaxy phones set to drop, the Korean manufacturer wants to also infiltrate the software side of things with its own messaging tool. Dubbed “Ch@tOn,” it’s being touted as a global service that will allow users to communicate “beyond borders,” per company speak. What that translates to, though, is a chat client available across all major platforms—iOS, Android, Blackberry—in 120 countries and 62 languages. Not to mention, using the service eliminates the need for a text messaging plan on your wireless bill, which is pretty damn awesome.
Specs aside, its features aren’t too shabby, either, offering group chat and in-client multimedia sharing (as the video above demonstrates, you can even make quick gif-style animations), among others. Whether or not Ch@tOn will unhook folks from BBM or even simple text-messaging will be the big question.
