Flipboard App Could Usher Magazines Further Into The Future

TV, Film, and E-book retailing all reportedly in the works.

Flipboard has been innovative in restructuring web content into magazine-style publications digitally for the iPad—touchscreen in mind—but completely repurposing them might be the bigger target. Investors the likes of Ashton Kutcher have championed the app, shamelessly shilling for it—as he does in the new issue of Details—but perhaps for good reason. Flipboard’s CEO Mike McCue recently revealed that the app will begin to integrate video by year’s end and with Kutcher’s studio contacts, TV and film content could be in the works. Flipboard is looking to sell e-books as well. And an iPhone version of the app is reportedly on the way, too.

With Flipboard and others leading the charge, publishing may finally catch up with the times and embrace digital fully. And so, magazines may soon revolutionize the way readers read experience content.
