Mark Wahlberg Announces "The Fighter 2"... Again

Because maybe we weren't listening during the first round.

At the Spike Guys' Choice Awards, Mark Wahlberg graciously accepted the "Guy Movie of the Year" award from Samuel L. Jackson. During his acceptance speech, the Beantown native took to the stage let loose some more news of what he revealed last March about The Fighter 2. Walking up with director David O. Russell and the real life Mickey Ward and Dicky Eklund, Wahlberg used the platform as an appropriate launch pad to announce the sequel.

"We left out the Ward/Gatti fights for a reason," he confessed, with the Eklund/Ward family behind him. "That's for Fighter 2... We're not going to do Fighter 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, but we're gonna do 2. We're gonna do the Ward/Gotti trilogy."

While the first movie followed the story of "Irish" Mickey Ward, who was trained by his brother (played by Christian Bale) and strove to go pro, the sequel would follow the unfolding dramatics of the classic bouts against Aturo Gatti. Those three fights from the early 2000s are considered boxing classics, really pushing Ward's name into the stratosphere as a boxer.
