"If This Then That" Wants to Help You Leverage The Web

Get familiar with "triggers" and "actions."

None

If This Then That is a new web service that takes its premise from that most basic logical equation. By letting you set up "triggers" (the "this" part of "If this, then that") and "actions" (the "that" part), IFTTT enables a wide variety of automated services and updates for users.

For instance, if you want to know when someone has responded to a post you wrote on their Facebook wall, but don't want to wait around online, you could just have IFTT shoot you a text. Or if you're waiting for the weather to warm up before you go for a jog, you could tell the service to send an alert when the temperature rises above 65 degrees.

IFTT is still in closed beta, but if you want to give the nifty new site a try, all you have to do is request an invite.
