F. Gary Gray, who's yet to direct a movie better than the 1995 comedy Friday, is looking to give the sci-fi genre a try. Deadline reports that Gray will direct The Last Days Of American Crime, which already has Avatar star Sam Worthington attached.

Based on the comic book series written by Rick Remender, the sci-fi heist project finds Worthington's character leading a team of criminals in one final job five days before the American government uses new age technology to erase man's impulse to break the law. Though Worthington isn't the most charismatic leading man around, and Gray's track record is spotty, that premise is actually pretty intriguing, no?

The Last Days of American Crime is expected to begin filming this September.
