Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Begins Saturday (4/30)

Literary shenanigans all weekend at USC.

East coast versus West, a tale older than time. In NYC this week we have the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature. The Cali competition is the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, beginning this Saturday. Obviously this isn't really a competition. If anything, the only battle lines to be drawn are people who love books versus the rest of the world. if you're in L.A. of NYC right now, it might feel like we're winning that battle.

Aimee Bender, Geoff Dyer, Jennifer Egan, Dave Eggers, Patti Smith, and many other luminaries of the literati will be in attendance, reading and participating in panels. Aside from the events including those names we just mentioned, we're excited about the "In Flux: The Music Biz" panel, featuring Dan Charnas, the man responsible for this Complex list:The Big Payback Presents the 25 Biggest Business Movies in Hip-Hop History. Charnas will be joined by Fred Goodman, Simon Reynolds, and Randall Roberts. That panel goes down Saturday at 4 p.m. in Taper 201 on USC's campus.

For the complete list of events, including which ones require a ticket, please check the festival's website.
