Last night's release event for Sasha Grey's book of photography, Neu Sex, filled Housing Works more fully than they've ever seen before. So says their twitter anyway. As an audience member, I can testify that, yes, it was crowded.
When asked by Stereogum editor Brandon Stosuy whether or not Neu Sex was a manifesto, Grey replied with a quick "yes." Okay. For a book that's nearly all photographs, it may require a lot of squinting on the reader's part to discover what counds as manifesto.
When discussing her former career in the adult entertainment industry, Grey called her work "performance art." She did not elaborate on this point.
After the event, she hopped over to Heathers, a bar, for drinks and jubilation with a few close friends, including Questlove.
Currently, Grey is working on cutting an album with her band, aTelecine. They play industrial a la Throbbing Gristle, or so I was told by another audience member.
