Asus To Start Selling PCs Made From Cardboard Shipping Boxes

Looking to lessen its environmental footprint, the computer maker wants to ship its PCs in a usable case.

In an effort to cut down on shipping wastes, Taiwanese computer maker Asus is taking a page out of the hobbyist handbook by planning to ship computers in cases made from cardboard in the near future.

All of the company's Mini-ITX motherboards will come in a shipping box that will also double as a computer case. The case will have compartments and openings for users to add certain peripherals and add-ons like hard drives and CD/DVD drives. They'll also sport holes for ventilation.

Asus says the cases will only be good for a year, after that you gotta get a real case. We know Asus loves the environment—its bamboo laptops are dope—but we're not sure we want out computer housed in something as flimsy as cardboard.
