A bunch of people had a kick-ass time at a sweaty show we couldn't score tickets to? Awesome! Thanks for reminding us! Generally speaking, tour films suck. Fortunately, The White Stripes' Under Great White Northern Lights is less a tour doc than an illuminating feature film about the simple yet complicated Detroit rock duo.

In the summer of 2007, Jack and Meg White travel across Canada for the first time, bringing their loud, lo-fi sound to towns and venues of all sizes, from smoky, beer-soaked rock bars to a bowling alley, a flour mill, a boat, and even a city bus. During the tour, which culminates in the band celebrating its 10th anniversary with a show at Nova Scotia's historic Savoy Theater, director Emmett Malloy masterfully captures Jack and Meg's personalities, as well as the inner workings of the group, with candid backstage moments and sit-down interviews. More than something to just stare at and listen to, Under Great White Northern Lights is a film that will make you think and question. For once, you didn't have to be there.
