Though Young Thug’s Beautiful Thugger Girls dropped less than 48 hours ago, some fans received their first taste of the project all the way back in 2015. As pointed out by Genius, the album’s standout track “Feel It” was previewed on Jerrika Karlae’s Instagram page under the working title “Feel Good.”

As many of you know, Jerrika is Thug’s fiancée as well as the inspiration behind Beautiful Thugger Girls. The Wheezy-produced “Feel It” is an ode to the couple’s relationship, addressing everything from their sex life to their jealousy to their mutual support for one another.

The track has been reworked and mastered several times since it was teased about two years ago; but what many of you might not know is that the final record was actually recorded in Thug’s attic, according to longtime collaborator Alex Tumay. The music engineer, who worked on Beautiful Thugger Girls, revealed the information Saturday night on Twitter.

Tumay first worked with Thug on Metro Boomin’s 2013 mixtape 19 & Boomin. Since then, he has become one of Thug’s closest friends and has served as his engineer and executive producer. In a 2015 interview with Complex, Tumay dished about working with Thug and having to adapt to his untraditional recording style.

“He records in a way that nobody else does,” Tumay saod. “I recommended [another engineer] because I was sick once, and he was like ‘How the fuck do you do this?’ because the way he records fucks with your whole idea of how you record people. He’ll have me punch him in with empty space before the song because he wants to rap before the beat comes in, then pick an arbitrary time to start and he’ll nail it. He has an absurd sense of timing that no one else has.”
